Lions make final plans for 75th Anniversary celebration

Meeting on Monday, September13, the local Lions made final plans for their 75th Anniversary celebration on Saturday, September 18. After routine secretary and treasurer reports, plans were made for the set-up of the Stanley Community Building on Friday, September 17. Lions helping with the extensive set-up will meet on Friday at 8:30 am to get ready for the event.

After President Jim Jones called the meeting to order, the first announcement was the introduction of new member Lion Rob Pegue, a transfer from the Menomonie Lions Club. Lion Rob and his family are new members in the Stanley community.

In old business, Treasurer Jerry Dirkes summarized the summer activities of the Lions and announced the successful fundraising done through the Watermelon Festival, Cheese Curd Sales and the Brat/ Pork Chop Sale held at Hansen’s IGA. TheLionswhoworked the events and those who supported these fundraisers were thanked for their support.

In new business, Lion Ben Isenberger presented information on a Library Sign Project that Lions are being asked to help develop. After answering questions, it was approved that the Stanley Lions will be lead on this project by Lions Isenberger and Jones, with other assisting with installation. The plan calls for installation before winter. Lion Isenberger also reported and thanked participating Lions for the eye screenings that were done in late August at the Stanley-Boyd Elementary School. In total 410 students were screened.

It was announced that Stanley Lions will be attending the Celebration of Life of longtime Lion and former secretary, Lee LaFlamme on Saturday, September 18, as a group. Lions able to attend are asked to be at the Oriole Park at 10:30 am.

Looking ahead, the Stanley Lions Highway 29 Cleanup, two miles to the east of County Hwy N, will be held on Sunday, October 3, at 4:30 pm, with Lions and Boy Scouts providing the service. The Annual Sunset Homes Brat Feed is scheduled to be held on Monday, October 25 at 5 pm.

It was announced that the next regular meeting of the Stanley Lions Club will be held at Debbie’s On Broadway on Monday, October 11. Lion Gary Krueger was the winner of the attendance drawing and was present.
