Owen’s main street adorned in its summer colors

Owen’s brand new centennial banners are up. Flags are flying on Main Street. DPW Chad Smith and Cindy Cardinal picked up the flowers for the hanging baskets and the barrel planters on Wednesday, May 21.
On the morning of May 22, teacher Caleb Green and middle/high school principal Nate Johnson brought the Horticulture class to the city shop to help Jeffer Scheuer and Cindy Cardinal plant the baskets and barrels. Malachi Frenette and Sydney Walia went to the Mill Pond to help Cardinal clean out the barrels and planters, while Taylor Bower, Brandon Geldernick, Austin Hanson, Connor Hanson, Bailey Ladewig, Aron Sanchez-Bautista, Tristen Wojcik and Austin Yeager stayed at the garage to help Scheuer, Green and Johnson plant the baskets.
With so many willing hands, the work was completed in about an hour and public works employees Brandon Wilson and Carter Sapinski had them in place shortly thereafter. In the afternoon, John Heil took time to get the baskets watered.
Also, that afternoon, Carey Hargot, Phil Greschner, and Cindy Cardinal did a little more plant shopping for the Growin’ Owen flower beds. Watch for them to appear in the flower beds at City Hall, across from Holy Rosary, the Owen Public Library and Fremont Park, as well as the two planter boxes by Mill Pond Park. Thanks to generous contributions from the Downtown Revitalization Committee, the Owen Centennial Committee, CreekSide Convenience, Frenchtown Greenhouse and donations from the public, there will be a few extra flowers this year in honor of Owen’s Centennial.
