ELLSWORTH – Sometimes best friends are as close as sisters, maybe even closer. Just ask Sina Hill and Beth Bible.
These two feisty gals have teamed up to open a unique gift and décor shop on Ellsworth’s Main Street with an appropriate moniker: The Sarcastic Sisters.
“Sina and I are best friends,” Bible said. “And Sina actually owns Snowball’s Bar in East End.”
When they were at Snowball’s brainstorming on the logistics of opening up their store and completing paperwork, one of the regulars suggested the name.
“He turned to us and said, ‘How about the Sarcastic Sisters’ because that is what you two are,” Bible laughed.
The shop features passions of both Hill and Bible and everything is handmade, refurbished or recycled by them. Bible makes “Sugar Me Softly” lotions, body care products and candles, plus a specialized beard care line. She also loves woodworking and restoring or repurposing old furniture and antiques. Hill creates custom print items such as hoodies, T-shirts, stocking hats, mousepads, tumblers and more.
“We thought, maybe we should open a store so we can get some space back in our houses,” Bible said.
The store officially opened on Black Friday and has received tons of support from the community.
Bible worked for 20 years in law enforcement and public safety in St. Paul/Ramsey County before moving to Ellsworth 2.5 years ago. She also served with White Bear Lake Fire for 13-14 years. She turned to woodworking and refurbishing items as a way to relax.
“I found it was a good stress reliever,” Bible said. “I just found it fun. I’ve always had a passion for antiques. My mom is the same way. We love to go shopping together and find cool things.”
Bible is sad when she sees “really beautiful pieces” that are just thrown away.
“I have a piece in my kitchen that we turned into a coffee bar,” she said. “It has a shipping label from 1892. It’s so much fun to find the history behind it. So it just kind of evolved.”
Examples of her work dot the shop, including cable reels made into display tables, refurbished shelves, beautiful lanterns and more. She and Hill have big plans to bring in more custom items, including reclaimed wood clocks.
“We’re still trying to get our footing and see what people are requesting, what are the big sellers,” Bible said. “We might do some ladies nights in events.”
Hill takes custom orders on just about anything print related, while Bible also does custom work on furniture pieces.
Sarcastic Sisters is located at 355 W. Main St., Ellsworth (formerly Wild Arrows Boutique). Shop hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. They are closed Sundays and Mondays.
