A crash Sunday, Feb. 2 on Highway 29 eastbound at County Highway H near Stanley has resulted in the death of a 19-year-old Withee man, identified as Treyton Douglas Tessmer.

The fatal crash took place at 4:07 a.m. on eastbound Hwy. 29 near Hwy. H when a Chippewa County Highway Department truck doing road maintenance was struck from behind by a 2017 Jeep Compass. The driver of the 2017 Compass was pronounced dead at the scene Sunday by Chippewa County Chief Deputy Coroner Mark Roshell. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, with alcohol listed as a factor for the driver of the 2017 Compass, according to a Wisconsin State Patrol press release.

The 45-year-old plow truck driver was not injured in the crash.

Chippewa County Coroner Ron Patten said, “I really don’t have a lot of information. I know a younger male passed away.”

Patten said he was on a different ambulance call when the accident happened, but that Boyd and other agencies responded. An autopsy will be conducted, he said.

Responding to the crash scene Sunday were several agencies, including the Wisconsin State Patrol, Stanley Police Department, Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department, Stanley Fire Department, Boyd Ambulance Service, and Chippewa County Coroner.

A Go Fund Me page has been set up for Treyton’s family by RaeAnna Marshall entitled “Support Treyton's Family in Their Time of Loss.”

“We woke up this morning to the heartbreaking news of Treyton’s passing,” Marshall wrote. “Obviously this was completely unexpected, and we could use help to raise the funds for a service and additional costs associated with his passing. Please share and donate if you can. We will update everyone with service details when we can. Please keep Treyton’s friends and family in your prayers.”
