EHS band teacher faces felony sex assault charges

Posted

An Ellsworth High School teacher has been placed on administrative leave after an alleged sexual relationship with a student was exposed.

Brandon A. Fuhrman, 23, River Falls, posted a $50,000 signature bond in Pierce County Circuit Court on two felony sexual assault of child by person who works or volunteers with children and two sexual intercourse with child 16 or older, actor 19 or older charges Feb. 22. If convicted, he faces up to six years in prison and/or $10,000 in fines.

According to the complaint:

On Feb. 20, an EHS student’s guardian reported to police the first-year band teacher (Furhman) had been having a sexual relationship with that student. The complaint said the student had admitted she and the teacher had been involved in a sexual relationship. There had apparently been suspicions about the student’s relationship with the teacher because they seemed to be too close personally for a professional teacher/student relationship.

At the juvenile's home, an audio recorder was left running on the recorder due to suspicions one weekend.. When the family returned home and listened to the audio, a male voice could be heard at their residence. The student confirmed it was Fuhrman.

The student told police their relationship developed over the school year and “became intense" and  sexual.

Fuhrman was arrested Feb. 20 at Ellsworth High School. Superintendent Barry Cain said he was placed on unpaid administrative leave. Cain also said staff were covering Furhman’s classes until a substitute band teacher could be hired.

Furhman will appear in Pierce County Circuit Court at 2:30 p.m. March 27 for a status conference.
