STILLWATER – After extensive renovations, Washington County is excited to unveil its cherished landmark on June 8 at the long-awaited grand opening of the newly-renovated Historic Courthouse in Stillwater. The event begins at 10 a.m. with speakers and a ribbon-cutting ceremony. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Parks staff will provide educational programming and activities for attendees. The Historic Courthouse will remain open until 4:30 p.m. for guests to enjoy.
The courthouse was closed for renovations from June 2023 to March 2024. Those renovations included replacing the roof; repairing the cupola and dome; repairing and replacing deteriorated bricks and mortar; waterproofing the foundation; and installing new downspouts, among other improvements.
Located high on the hill at 101 W. Pine St. and overlooking downtown Stillwater, the Washington County Historic Courthouse is the longest standing courthouse in the state of Minnesota, serving as the county seat for over 100 years. Now a Washington County Park, the Historic Courthouse offers daily guided and self-guided tours, activities for families, educational programming for the public, schools and scouts, public events, and private meeting and event rental spaces.
