The driver of a semi hauling turkeys was cited after the truck rolled on its side while turning from Hwy. 10 onto Hwy. 61 in Denmark Township Friday morning. The accident was reported at 8:58 a.m.
The accident shutdown the southbound lanes of Hwy. 61 for several hours while tow trucks attempted to upright the semi and the scene was cleaned.
Southbound Hwy. 61 was partially opened for traffic by Friday afternoon.
No injuries were reported. Semi driver James Palmer, 56, Turtle Lake, WI, was cited for failing to drive with due care, according to the Minnesota State Patrol incident report.
Live turkeys were seen on the side of Hwy. 61 as late as mid-afternoon Friday. The State Patrol didn’t have information available as to “damage” to the semi’s cargo, directing questions to the trucking company but a spokesperson confirmed “some (turkeys) did not survive the crash.”
